Rated 2 out of 5 by Southernbloke Great coffee, unreliable product
We purchased this machine for our small office. The coffee is great but within 6 months the machine malfunctioned. Sent back to dealer and waited 6 weeks to receive repaired unit. The machine malfunctioned again within 10 weeks. None of the advice from the dealer was accurate about maintenance and repair. We disassembled the machine, repaired it and got another 12 months of service. It recently failed again and we have given up and purchased a product from a different manufacturer. Both the dealer and product experience were unacceptable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Verified Reviewer Needed repairs after 9 months
Makes a great cup of coffee and is generally easy to use.
However, after the first descaling cycle the unit needed to be re-primed each time when awakening from standby. Also, the display went from bold and bright to dimmed.
I bought the machine "new" in 2015, however, once I started having problems I noted the machine had a manufacture date of 2012. I was assured the machine was indeed new, but I cannot accept an inventory shelf life of 3 years (plus the original box had been previously opened). The salesperson told me at the time that they always open each box to ensure quality; when I returned the machine 9 months later the same salesperson told me perhaps the box had been opened by Customs...

I bought this machine about one year ago (2013) the coffe was a good taste but the maintenance of the machine was high.
After 10 months the taste of the coffee was burnt and sour and after changing the coffee grains 3 times the taste was the same and we could not drink the coffe anymore.
We contacted the retailer (ELGIGANTEN) in Denmark and after 3 months they couldn not fix the machine, the guaranty and service has been very poor and we are on legal fights with the retailer that is not able to fix the machine or give us a solution.
Overal, I don't recomend this machine, extremely fragile and poor service from Philips certified workshops.

Rated 1 out of 5 by FrustratedOwner It broke and it is in repair for three months now. And no sign of when it will be fixed!
I live in Toronto (Canada). I own this espresso maker since the end of last year. Three months ago the display failed. I left it for warranty repair at the rocommended by support place in Scarborough. Every few weeks I call for the satus of repair update - they are waiting for parts. I contacted the main support three weeks ago, they promissed to investigate - no answer. I am not sure what to do next - it was not a 20 dollar coffee maker! Is there any law how the repair should be processed? Should I get another machine during mine is repaired?

Too finicky. Wastes coffee, can not seem to make it work well and consistently. Poor documentation. I like my old manual machine better. Considering returning machine. Too bad I had high hopes n

Rated 4 out of 5 by LarryWx Works reasonably well with some inconveniences
The saeco syntia makes reasonably good coffee, comparable to another brand's super-automatic espresso/coffee machine we had previously. There are some issues with it, though: 1) The water container is way, way too small. Should be twice as big. 2) The bypass for adding pre-ground coffee has too small a doorway, making it almost impossible to avoid spilling grounds on the top of the machine, and the doorway won't stay open without holding it. 3) If you put even one level scoop (the scoop provided with the machine) of pre-ground coffee in the bypass, the machine will throw away the coffee and not brew anything. You have to use less coffee. 4) The instructions for programming the amount of water to use for the two buttons provided for this are inadequate. It took a while to figure out how to do it. 5) The plastic cover that prevents you from accidentally sticking your fingers in the coffee grinder is useless because who would stick their fingers in there anyway? And it causes the beans not to feed cleanly sometimes. Fortunately, it can be removed.
The biggest drawback is the completely inadequate size of the water tank. Second would be the crazy expensive price of the filter.
