Now more than ever, a smile can make a world of difference.

Why? Because one smile leads to another.

When you smile, you spread joy and confidence to everyone else —during a time when they may be in short supply. All the more reason to care for your smile with a daily oral hygiene routine.

With so much on your mind, you may be overlooking your mouth.

Like most of us, you’re probably taking precautions to stay safe and protect your health.  And your dental care may not be at the top the list.  You have more pressing matters on your plate. Confined to your house 24/7, you might be slipping on some every day habits — is it really important to brush twice a day when there’s no one to notice?

But here’s the thing. Your body will know. In fact, researchers have determined that regular brushing and flossing can help prevent gum disease and may have other positive benefits to your health. Which is something to smile about.

Here are four easy steps to keep your 32 teeth at their healthy, brightest best:

    1. Brush at least twice daily for at least two minutes. If that feels like an eternity come up with playlists of your favorite tunes to brush along to.
    2. Floss every night before bed. Remember, it’s all that stuff between your teeth that can damage them. So, don’t forget.
    3. Rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash frequently.
    4. Don’t forget to brush your tongue. It may be hiding behind your smile, but it should be brushed once a day.

Even if you’re stuck inside, your smile is out there for the world to see.

You have an important video conference with clients or maybe a virtual dinner party with friends. You may be far apart but you’re still face-to-face – sometimes closer than usual! Keep up with your brushing and flossing to ensure that your brilliant smile shines through.

    Beware, the sweet tooth.

When you experience more stress than usual, you may crave sugary treats like candy, cookies, or maybe even a pint of mint chocolate ice cream. They’re so good, but so bad for your teeth and gums. The best advice: limit sweets as much as you can and when you can’t resist those cravings, remember to brush thoroughly afterwards.

    Little smiles are big, too.
