How to descale my Saeco PicoBaristo espresso machine

Descaling your Saeco PicoBaristo espresso machine helps keeping it in optimal condition. Discover how to easily do this yourself.

Before you start the descaling cycle

  • The complete descaling takes about 30 minutes and consists of a descaling cycle and rinsing cycles
  • Once started you need to complete the descale procedure till the very end
  • Use Saeco/Philips descaling solution CA7600 or CA6701, never use vinegar as a decalcifier

Before you start:

  • Empty the drip tray
  • Have a container available to collect the water during the descaling process
  • Remove the INTENZA+ water filter from the water tank (if placed)
  • Remove the Pannarello / Cappuccinatore / Automatic milk frother (if placed)
  • Fill half of the milk carafe with fresh water.

Descale instructions - descale cycle steps 1-8

1) When the display indicates “Start Descaling?“, press the OK button to confirm to start the descaling.
Note: If start the descaling procedure later, press the MENU/SPECIAL DRINKS button, choose 'Menu', and scroll to select 'Descaling'. Press OK to confirm.

2) The display informs you to remove the AquaClean filter from the water tank (if present). Remove the filter and confirm with OK button.

3) The display informs you to empty the drip tray. Empty the drip tray and confirm with OK button.

4) Remove the Automatic Milk Frother from the steam tube. For machine with a Milk Carafe: The display informs you to insert the milk carafe. Fill half of the milk carafe with fresh water. Insert and open the milk dispensing spout. Confirm with OK button.

5) Place a container underneath the coffee dispensing spout and steam tube/ milk carafe dispensing spout. Confirm with OK.

6) Pour the entire bottle of Saeco descaling solution in the water tank. Top up the water tank with fresh tap water to the Calc Clean level indication. Confirm with OK.

7) The machine will start dispensing the descaling solution at intervals. The display shows descaling phase 1/2. This takes about 20 minutes.

8) Let the machine dispense the descaling solution until the water tank is empty.

Descale instructions - rinsing cycle steps 9-13

9) Remove the water tank and rinse it. Fill it with fresh water up to the Calc Clean level indication. Place back the water tank. Confirm with OK.

10) Remove and rinse the container, place it back underneath the coffee dispensing spout and steam tube. Confirm with OK. For machine with milk carafe: Fill half of the milk carafe with fresh water. Insert and open the milk dispensing spout. Empty the container and place it back. Confirm with OK.

11) The rinsing cycle starts. The display shows descaling phase 2/2. This takes about 3 minutes.

12) Wait until the machine stops dispensing water. The descaling procedure is finished when the OK tick and descaling completed appears on the display. Note: If the water tank is not filled up to the CALC CLEAN level, the machine may require another rinsing cycle.

13) Press the OK button to exit the descaling. The machine automatically starts heating up and performs the automatic rinsing cycle.
