It is important to clean your Philips Avent Electric Breast Pump before the first use and afterwards regularly. Find out how to maintain good breast pump hygiene below.
Note: There is no need to disinfect the silicone tubes and caps because they do not come in contact with milk. Please wipe clean the motor unit and adapter with a soft, damp cloth.
How to clean and disinfect the Philips Avent Breast Pump
Disassemble
- Disassemble the breast pump, bottle and storage cup completely. Also remove the white valve from the breast pump.
Note: Be careful with the white valve when you remove and clean it. If it gets damaged, your breast pump will not function properly. To remove the white valve, gently pull at the ribbed tab on the side of the valve.
Clean with hot water and washing-up liquid or in the dishwasher
- Clean all parts (except motor unit, adapter, silicone tubes and caps) in hot water with some mild washing-up liquid.
- Rinse all the parts thoroughly.
- You can also clean the parts in the dishwasher (on the top rack only).
- Allow all parts to dry on a clean surface.
Expert tip: To clean the valve, rub it gently between your fingers in warm water with some washing-up liquid. Do not insert objects into the valve, as this may cause damage
Disinfect
- Disinfect all parts (except motor and adapter silicone tubes, and caps) by boiling them for 5 minutes.
- Make sure to allow for a cool-down period after the sterilizing cycle has ended: the breast pump can be too hot to touch immediately after sterilizing.
- Allow all parts to dry on a clean surface.
