Having had this product for about 5-months now, it's much better than cell phone apps
I've had my DVT5500 since October 2012 and I'm very pleased with the battery life, features and mic options. I've used the ear buds to record conferences broadcasted via FM and other lectures and I've never been disappointed. The battery life of 48 hours takes this product leaps and bounds beyond my cell phone app for recording. It becomes a set it and forget it operation and having the recorder break the files every 30-minutes is great for working with them and or sharing with others. My next project is to use it with Dragon. I've been recording my 93-yr old father so I have some of his memory in his own words. I'm very glad to have this device.

Problems with Digital Recorder & FM Radio
I have purchased MANY Philips electronics since my first Video Cam in 1990. TV's, CD Players, DVD Players, etc. So I am aware of the excellent quality I should expect from a Philips product. That is exactly why I chose the Philips Voice Tracer Recorder DVT5500 above.
The sound quality on the speakers is tinny, The Manual Tuning Function on the FM receiver will not allow me to Manually tune the set. It always defaults to "Auto Tune" and I can not tune in the stations above about 98.8 FM. The display is too small to see properly and the backlit screen is only on for a second or two. I would much rather have something else that cost $$$ that can satisfy me. I am depressed about this purchase.

Too complicated, manual hard to follow
Very disappointed in this product, particularly because the manual is so poorly written and confusing that it doesn't help you learn how to use the product. Please, a reader-friendly guide would be useful. Regret buying this.

Very disappointed in the product.
FM Radio will not allow me to Manual Search. Goes only to Auto search. Will not auto search beyond 20 presets. Always the same 20, and only to about 98.8 on the dial. I listen to 103.3 and 108.7 regularly, and can't get them on the radio's auto tune.
The LCD display only stays on for a few seconds. then blacks out. The screen is so small I have a hard time reading anything. I paid over $130.+ for this device. I am really disappointed. I have used Philips products for many years and have always been satisfied with VCR's TV's, DVD players, etc. So this is a surprise.
