Shaver great; replacement heads trashI have used Philips Norelco shavers for years, and always considered them to be the best of the best. I still think that about new shavers, as long as the original cutters and foils last. Then all bets are off. The "new and improved" RQ12 + and RQ 12 Pro heads are disasters. They both render great shavers almost worthless. I have no idea what Norelco was thinking when they put such trash on the market, but to make such great electronics, then shove them to the dump with these inferior replacement heads, makes the company look beyond foolish. I have bought my last Norelco product.

Close shave so far but design problems - IMOI am an architect, so design is my scene, and I have used Norelco Philips shavers since I started shaving in 1976. I don't have a heavy growth so they usually work fine for me. I replaced an older 4000 style unit with this 9300 &, so far, I am very unimpressed after one week of use. The shave is fine but that's about where it stops. The "Smart Cleaning" system which came with it is a joke and takes hours to complete its cycle. Worst of all however is the design of the body of the unit itself. It looks nice but it is not ergonomic when it comes to holding it with a hand. My 4000 series is shaped to fit a hand naturally and works with ease when shaving. The 9300 is angular and does not fit my hand well at all. While I am shaving my thumb ends up resting on the on/off button & often, I switch the shaver off by accident while I am using it. I wonder how they came up with such a poor design for the grip. For me, it does not feel comfortable or natural at all to hold and I am not happy with this expensive unit. It is also much more bulky than my former unit with a bigger hard case which is a problem for me too as I travel a lot. There were no open samples in the store for me to see when I bought it and I am probably going to return it as I think it is certainly not worth what I paid. Close shave so far but, I think, a poorly conceived and flawed design.

Fantastic? Yes. Perfect? No.This 9300 Series shaver gives me the best electric shave I have ever experienced. I have used electric shavers for about 45 years and the majority have been Norelco shavers. My other razors claimed "blade close" shaves but always fell somewhat short. The 9300 meets that boast on my face. I don't know if it's the SH90 heads or the 8-way flex, whatever it is works great for me.
I don't shave in the shower or otherwise wet-shave but the water proof, rinsable, design lends itself to easy cleaning. The Inclusion of the Smart Clean system is a superb addition. This is my first experience with this type of accessory. The ability to give the razor a thorough cleaning and lubrication should help keep the blades fresh and the cutting efficient. What I don't care for is the fact that the cleaning automatically switches to charging when done. Batteries typically have a charge-cycle limit before they exhibit degraded performance. To have the base charge the razor every cleaning may lead to premature failure. For this reason I only put my razor into the Smart clean once weekly. The rest of the time I pop the razor under hot water and air dry. (this is why only 4 stars).
In closing let me just say that this razor may seem pricey but it is well worth the extra money for "the perfect electric share".

Not as good as the old Lift & CutDoes not shave as close as my older Lift & Cut razor. Norelco does not offer replacement blades for it anymore, so I bought this razor. Misses a lot of hair on the first, second, third and fourth pass.

Very hard to clean bladesI've had Norelco shavers for over 50 years! I bought this new one rather than just replacement blades when my other one got old. This is by far the most cumbersome razor to clean. Each round blade and screen is held in by individual orange plastic rings. Very difficult to put back together - screen, blade then orange ring. Why can't they make a 'lock' for the blades like the old razor --- it just fit over all 3 and with one easy turn, locked it in place. Poor design Norelco.... I'm unsatisfied!

This product performs poorlyI've used the older Norelco model 6885XL for over 20 years and it's performed well.
Within this past year I purchased the new Series S9311 due to the fact it was difficult getting replacement parts for my older 6885XL. I wish to say this shaver has never shaved as close or as quickly as my old Norelco 6885XL shaver. In fact the more I use this newer shaver the worse it performs.
I've watched the Norelco instructional videos online prior to using this new razor, and have followed the recommended maintenance and cleaning procedures carefully.
In my opinion though this Series 9000 shaver has the latest technology it does not perform as well as the old Series 6885XL. Maybe I just got a lemon, or the shaver heads were bad from the start.
I don't recommend this model to anyone with a heavy beard.

Smart Clean Doesn't WorkI bought the S9311 razor and used it for a few days. The razor works great. I decided to use the Smart Clean system. I installed the cleaning cartridge per the documentation and started the cleaning cycle. Razor was cleaned and dried successfully. I removed my razor from the base as documented and then rested it back into the cradle without pushing down on the top connector as recommended in the manual to protect the blades. When I went back into the bathroom a few hours later, I noticed the orange replace cartridge light flashing. Upon further investigation, I saw a puddle of the cleaning solution all over the counter and the unit. I removed the cleaning cartridge and it was empty. I cleaned up the base and put in a new cartridge. This time I left the razor on the counter next to the Smart Clean base. I then noticed that the cleaning cycle was coming on and going off without the razor even in it. I watched as the cleaning solution was frothing up and pouring out of the unit. I tried to return the unit to Kohls, but they would not take it back because it had been used and the cleaning cartridges were gone. I called Philips customer care, and they believe that I got a faulty Smart Clean base. They are sending me a new one along with additional cartridges to see if this fixes the problem. I am hoping that it does, but fearing that this is a bad design and others will have the same issue once these new razors hit the market for Christmas. Keeping my fingers crossed that the new unit will work properly and if not, that Philips will provide a refund or replacement razor.

This shaver does a real good job!I have used this shaver for less than a year. I love how close it shaves! However, it has gotten to the point that I have to put the head back on the shaver up to 5 times while I shave only 1 time. I am so aggravated at it that I would not recommend this shaver to anyone. I am sure there are shaver made that can shave as close as this one does without the aggravation!
