Philips Sonicare provides services that give advice relating to improving brushing and oral hygiene habits and other services ("Services") to users around the world. This Privacy Notice is meant to help you understand our privacy practices when you use our Services, including what data we collect, why we collect it and what we do with it, as well as your individual rights.

 

Philips Sonicare uses personal data collected or processed by the Philips Sonicare connected toothbrush and the Philips Sonicare breath analyser device(s) ("Device") and/or the Philips Sonicare mobile application ("App").

This Privacy Notice applies to personal data collected or processed by the Device and/or the App, which is controlled by or under control of Philips Oral Healthcare, LLC or any of its affiliates or subsidiaries ("Philips", "our", "we" or "us").

What Personal Data are collected and for which Purposes

We receive or collect personal data, as described in detail below, when we provide our Services, including when you access, download, install the Device or the App, or use our Services. We may use this personal data to perform the Services requested by you as a contractual necessity, to operate, provide, improve, customise, support and market our Services based on our legitimate interest, or to comply with a legal obligation to which we may be subject. If you do not want us to collect and process your personal data, you may not be able to use the Services.

Sensitive Personal Data

Before we collect sensitive personal data, we will inform you and ask your explicit consent. This data includes the brushing and breath quality goals you set, your brushing data and other oral care habits/activities. You may withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before withdrawing your consent.  

 

Sensitive Personal Data

We ask that you not send us and you not disclose any sensitive personal data (e.g., social security numbers, information related to racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion or other beliefs, health, biometrics or genetic characteristics, criminal background or trade union membership) on or through the App or otherwise to us.

Account Data

We collect your personal data when you create an account. You may log in to the App using a MyPhilips account or by using your social media profile. The personal data we collect may include your username, profile photo, name, email address, gender, birthday/age, country, language, latest tweet, profile URL, social media profile, location and password.

 

The personal data collected is used to create and manage your account. You can use your account to securely log in to the app. If you create a MyPhilips account to log in to the app, we will send you a welcoming email to verify your username and password, to communicate with you in response to your enquiries, to send you strictly service-related announcements, or direct marketing communication in case you have opted in. You may also use your MyPhilips account to order a Philips product or service, participate in a promotion or game, participate in a social media activity related to a Philips promotion (for example clicking 'like' or 'share'), and participate in product testing or surveys.

Data filled in by you

Other Provided Data

This data includes answers given in the onboarding questionnaire, as well as other contextual questions regarding your oral care habits and activities.

 

  • The data collected is used to help you improve your brushing and oral hygiene habits and make lasting changes to your oral health. We do this by measuring your goal progress and by providing you with oral care recommendations to meet your goals.

Devices data

Device Data

We may collect device-specific information when you install, access or use the Device. This includes information about your Device, including the unique user device number. We also collect session and usage data, which is related to your use of the Device.

 

If you use the Philips Sonicare connected toothbrush Device, the Device records your use of the Device, such as time of use, battery level, and sensor data such as location, motion and pressure of the brush, in addition to the type of brush head and mode you use when brushing, and streams it to the App. This data also includes unique user Device number, session and usage data, which is information about your use of the Device(s).

 

  • The data collected is used to track your brushing and synch with your personalised 3D mouth map in the Sonicare app, to give you a customised program to immediately address missed spots, track your brush head effectiveness and alert you when to replace your brush head.

 

If you use the Philips Sonicare breath analyser Device, the Device records your use of the Device, such as time of use, battery level, and sensor data which includes bacteria by-product gases (VSC's) and mouth humidity and streams it to the App. This data also includes unique user Device number, session and usage data, which is information about your use of the Device(s).

 

  • The data collected is used to provide you with real-time breath quality results, to track patterns and provide personalised coaching and education to improve your breath score and oral care habits.

We use cookies, tags or similar technologies to operate, provide, improve, understand and customise our Services. Cookies allow us to recognise your mobile device and collect your personal data, including your unique user Device number, the IP address of your mobile device, the type of mobile internet browser or operating system you use, session and usage data, or service-related performance information, which is information about your use of the App.

When you allow access to location data, we may collect the geographic location of your mobile device. You can at any time block geo-location collection through the settings of your App or mobile device.

 

  • When you make use of the ‘Find Philips near you’ functionality on the Support Page, you are requested to share your location data with Philips. Based on your location data you will be directed towards a store near you, or to the consumer care contact details of your country.

This data includes Account Data, Data filled in by you, Device(s) Data, Cookies, Location Data and Data we get from your interactions with Philips, which includes;

 

  • Data about your interactions and usage of the Philips digital channels such as social media, websites, emails, apps and connected product. This data may include: IP address, cookies, device information, communications you click on or tap, location details, websites you visit, etc.
  • The combined data is analyzed and used to provide you with the Philips Sonicare services such as track your brushing and synch with your personalized 3D mouthmap in the Sonicare app, to give you a customized program to immediately address missed spots, tracks your brush head effectiveness and alerts you when to replace your brush and to provide custom product recommendations. We may aggregate this data, removing individual personal data, in order to create publications, presentations, reports or other (marketing) communications, which we can use for both internal and external purposes.
  • If you choose to receive promotional communications - based on your preferences and behavior - about Philips products, services, events and promotions we may contact you with promotional communications via email, phone and other digital channels, such as Mobile apps and social media. To be able to tailor the communications to your preferences and behavior and provide you with the best personalized experience, we may analyze and combine your personal data.
  • We use this data to help us improve the content, functionality and usability of the App, Device(s) and our products and services and to develop new products and services.
  • We may combine the information collected from you and share them with other companies of the Philips Group and with third parties.

Special information for parents

While Philips Sonicare is not generally targeted at children under the age of 13 it is Philips policy to comply with the law when it requires parent or guardian permission before collecting, using or disclosing personal data of children.
