Rated 3 out of 5 by rgrric Great price, average performance
Having owned this model since 2009, I've played many discs on it and it has finally started to show its age. At least three or four discs in the past 6 months it has quit playing mid way through. My 13 year old game system though, has yet to ever have this problem. Despite this developing issue, it has generally always done well and provides very nice picture and sound. The network connectivity doesn't allow much of anything and even software updates require a disc, so I'm not sure why it is even network enabled- perhaps for the BR Disc features. I've never gotten any of them to work. I've never used the HDMICEC/easylink but it seems like it would be nice. I paid very little online new in 2009 for this player, a great deal then and still so today (was the price of an inexpensive DVD player). I would recommend this machine if you're on a budget and want a no frills machine that just enables basic BRD/DVD playback. the SD slot is a nice feature as well. Have used it several times since getting a DSLR camera. The slot makes it much easier than plugging in a camera to the TV. My biggest complaint is that it is finally starting to break down after four years of solid performance. Otherwise, very good product.

I purchased this product before the blue ray became the now standard for DVD players. I am satisfied with the performance until it's time to replace it with a blue ray.

Rated 2 out of 5 by dissapointed Blue Ray
I would not purchase this DVD player again. It cuts out all the time when there is a black or dark screen on a movie and it loses the signal. Half the time you are afraid to use it because you do not know when it is going to happen. It is slow to load and takes forever for the power to turn on and off.

This player can play a wide variety of Blu-Ray and DVD discs with no problems. The software is versatile enough to play discs from many manufacturers without downloading additional software.

Rated 4 out of 5 by DoctorDan Good Entry-Level Blue-Ray Player
If you need a Blue-Ray player, and simply want it to watch Blue-Ray movies, this is an adequate model to select, and is reasonably priced. With the HDMI, Component, and Digital Optical Audio outputs, there are a variety of options for connecting to high-definition TVs for up to 1080p video and to audio equipment such as receivers for Dolby surround sound.
If, however, you are seeking Blue-Ray player that will also allow you to enjoy downloaded content from the Internet, there are better alternatives available. This unit is equipped with an RJ45 Ethernet port for connection to your home network and the Internet, and is equipped with an SD Card reader, but the functionality for obtaining content from the Internet is limited to what Blue-Ray publishers and studios include with their disks. I have yet to find a reason to download such content. Content from other Internet providers such as Netflix and Hulu are not included in the features available on this unit. Still, it is quite convenient to have the Internet connection so as to facilitate updates in the firmware of the unit from Philips.
