docking speaker

This is an 8W unit and if you set your expectations for the size and power output it sounds great. Much better than some of those terrible little portable speakers and docks that are everywhere these days. The bass is really very good and the overall response seems quite even extending into a nice clean high end. Even pushed to full volume distortion seems almost absent. It will fill a small room with a full sound but this is really a personal listening product and at lower volumes in closer proximity it sounds very nice indeed. Not at all tinny and thin. Kudos to the Philips engineers on a good acoustic design in a solid, compact package. For the money it's hard to do better. Most docks these days are either cheap junk or overpriced. This one sits comfortably in the middle providing a good value. The unit is out of production meaning you can pick it up cheap in many places. I don't use iPods but it sounds great with the external input as well.

I've been looking for something to replace my 20 year old boom box which is too large for the area I have it in. I was hoping the small design of this Philips speaker dock would replace it. Unfortunately its nowhere close to the sound of my old system. This product might work for someone who is only needing to listen to music from the same room the speaker is in. Forget about cranking it up. It won't sound good.
