goLITE BLUEnergy light

Winters are long, cold and dark where I live in Northern Ontario. I really think using this light each morning is making a difference. This is the only winter I can remember that I haven't had the 'winter blahs', along with low energy. The light is the only change I've made. The light is easy to use, and a good price. Highly recommended.

I bought the golite at Costco in 2013 in the winter months. I really NEED to be on vacation around Feb/March but was not able to go to a beach. So I tossed in my cart. I have since convinced my brother to use it daily. We both know it works because we used it all winter 2014 into 2015 and for the first time haven't suffered with depression during the darkest months in Canada. Although a vacation is nice, I didn't CRAVE the sun and stayed calm and happy throughout the coldest season. I don't use it during the summer months, although my brother does because he's indoors more than I am. I have it set on timer and I use it each morning while I'm eating and having my coffee. If I don't have time and use it to later in the day...it gives me so much energy I can't sleep. So I recommend only using it in the early part of your day and if you forget, skip until the next day. My daughter is 12 and is recovering from a concussion and mild traumatic brain injury. We are in month 10 of her recovery and she has just started using the light therapy because fatigue is a major symptom. She finds it helpful. She is light sensitive from the injury but the golite is still something she is using daily without difficulty and happy she tried it. Over all she is a night owl, and the golite is helping her get on a day time routine so she can attend school again.

Overall this is a great product! I had an older model years ago, decided to buy one again. I know it works. My only complaints are it doesn’t hold a charge for long - I sit in front of it one time for 30 minutes, and the next time I have to charge it halfway through. My old one would keep a charge for days. So it’s not “mobile” in that sense. My old one had an actual timer that would shut off after a specified time, this one just has the bars at the bottom, so in order to know it’s been 30 minutes, you have to wait until the 3rd bar (each is 10 minutes) is completely lit up. If I ever had to turn my old one off and back on, it wouldn’t restart the timer, this one completely starts over. I know this one is working, so I gave it 5 stars for that

Living in Canada, the gloomy winters can be long and take a toll on morale. I wasn't convinced a blue light gadget would be able to duplicate the effects of essential sunlight, but after only a few days or regular use I noticed a big difference. This little this is awesome. Without even realizing it, I was in a better mood. I have it with me on my desk at work for those grey sky days. Now everyone in the office wants to borrow it for 30 min. Great device. It really helped me get through winter.

This is a confusing product. It was clearly designed very well and then two changes were made to the design, perhaps based on a committee or some other kind of input that the original designer didn't have control over. 1. The flap on the back it relies on for standing upright is flimsy, it feels like it's about to break at any moment and probably will. I expect this part of it to break very quickly with normal use. 2. The location for the charging/power plug is behind the flimsy and poorly designed flap, so it has to be open in order to charge it. Both of these issues are a stark departure from Philips otherwise careful attention to design and usability, and if they were corrected it would he a perfect product. A great advance in the next generation of this and the Somneo light would be if they worked together, the goLITE BLU activating once the Somneo had finished the wake-up cycle. Integrating those two products would create the idea wake-up light.
