No Effort by Philips to Make it a Good Product
First of all, I udnersand this is a budget soundbar but lacks every single effort by Philips to make this product useful. I got this cheap model without subwoofer because I did not want to disturb my children sleeping in the next room with bass while watching TV. Regardless, sound quality is somewhat disappointing and most PC or portable speakers at this price range would have better sound quality than this HTL1505 by Philips. What's worse is that this speaker is very easy to tip-over when placed on flat surface. The centre of mass is biased towards front and a light touch at the back corner of speaker flips the entire unit and falls on the floor. My 3 yo daughter tipped-over this speaker on day-one when trying to grab a notepad placed next to speaker. Unfortunately, this speaker was not compatible with universal remote provided by my cable company (Telus), although there were 15+ codes to choose from for Philips home theatre products. I have to keep separate remote just to adjust the volume. Also, this speaker has annoying auto standby feature, which the speaker turns itself off after 15 minutes of inactivity. I prefer to have speaker always on or bering able to adjust the auto-off time, but Philips does not offer that option for this product. After 15 minutes of pausing or muting Netflix, Youtube or whatever to pick up a call, you gotta find the speaker remote and turn the speaker back on again. The only "quick start guide" included with the soundbar is very minimal. For example, the guide does not describe how to pair and unpair Bluetooth devices (it was by holding play/pause button on remote) nor does it describe what "sound" button does on remote. Also the full user manual on the website does not describe the product in details. Aforementioned "sound" button is described as "Choose Music, Movie or News mode". Each time the button is pressed, the LED indicator switched from green, yellow, and white but does not indicate which colour responds to which mode. This product does not stand to the Philips brand name and cheaper speakers from random store brands or Chinese brands perform way better with more features and better instructions. It has a good potential to be a good budget speaker but Philips did not spead any efforts to make it so. Oh by the way, this product does not even come with cheap 3.5mm cable, which most speaker manufactures include it as a courtesy to the customer. Not Philips. Good thing I had spare TOSLINK cables lying around.
