HD Media player

Even though I could only use 2 of the apps because the rest are American and I’m from Canada any way word of advice it’s worth it it runs on a old version of Netflix and I was surprised that the picture was cleaner from this box then from my ps3 on my 4K tv I would recommend a update similar to Sony ps3 update that upgrade HDMI 1.3 to HDMI 1.4 for 3D ect. But with this box I would recommend attempting software upgrade to add HDMI 2.0 or closer to it in a custom way also I would add prime video Disney plus turbo it would be great if the box was able to convert external drive content into 3D red and blue or passive shutter style etc. It would bring a market advantage to Philips to add such a feature to all there media boxes all so should have a resolution override feature for media app so that during use Of Netflix prime Disney plus ect you could overthrow the content providers original resolution to add same 3D effects usable on external devices don’t know about you but I think content providers are missing out not providing the features them selfs imagine movies like red notices Netflix exclusive and the tomorrow war a amazon prime executive in 3D

An inexpensive way to watch Netflix movies, YouTube videos, and recorded media, as well (through a usb flash drive) if you don't have a smart tv. I've had mine a couple of years, and still use it, regularly.

Does not play AVI files like it says! None of my AVI files play and I have a cheaper, older media player that does play AVI. Other than that, unit would be Excellent. I hope they can fix the issue with AVI. I purchased it a few months ago and I have been waiting for an update.

Plays almost all formats except AVI files. I see on the box it says AVI. However, it fails to play any AVI files. I need my money back.

Lovely design and easy to use, but unfortunately it is unable to read the avi format.

The external design of this product looks great next to your TV. Unfortunately the positives end there. This unit doesn't play many formats, the user interface looks like it was designed in the 80's, the performance of the unit it poor with lots of screen lag. I really hope that they release a firmware upgrade for this product.

I bought this device since I've had good support from Philips in the past and I expected this product to be a good product from Philips. I was wrong. The first thing I noticed was that this device did not work properly with any of my HD tvs. They say it works with 720p, however, it does not sync with the tv when you plug it in. When I contacted support, all they told me was it was the tv that wasn't working correctly. After much playing, I finally got it to work on 720p. With no help or thanks to Philips support. I have also noticed, when the device is powered on for long periods of time, it will freeze. And has to be unplugged to get it to work properly. If I'm watching Netflix and I'm watching a lot of shows, then having to get up and unplug it periodically is something I don't want to do. Just today I had to try and troubleshoot Netflix, that's not Philips problem, the support site suggested deactivating Netflix on the device. When I selected the option to deactivate Netflix on the device, it would not reboot like it was supposed to. I mistakenly reset to default settings, and lo and behold, I can't get it to work on my tv again. I hate this machine. Worst Philips device I've ever seen.

Don't waste your time even thinking about getting one of these. Takes forever to connect to network after startup. Getting Netflix to work is a hassel and will usually end in a black screen which means you have to resart and try all over again. Do yourself a favour and get a WD LIVE player, it plays anything you can throw at it and just works!

Useless piece of junk. How could they put out a media player that doesn't play the most basic files?

Well its performance is awful, its unable to play any XVID or DIVX file, if you're watching any Youtubevideo it suddenly hangs or resets. Really poor performance
