after 7 months the display went on it! I live 6 hour drive from service department and as I talk with the service tech, he says that its typical with these machines. I wish I could get my money back. This time was fixed under warranty but if it lasts only 6 or 7 months I cannot afford to keep this machine. So if Philips is aware of this problem why don't they recall these machines and replace the display with one that can stand up to the heat or what ever. It makes great coffee but 6 hour drive each way and then no parts in stock so now they have to ship it via mail! Hello Phillips please help.

the only complain and again I don't call it a complain, it's the small water container, puck container and coffee bean container, but then if you want a small coffee machine with all the bells then you have to sacrifice something. I had many coffee machines in my time but a better tasting espresso, this beats them all and also the one push cappuccino is awesome.

We really enjoyed the espresso made by the Syntia but were disappointed when the display panel went on the fritz after 6 months. This happened immediately following a descaling process.

Overall I am happy with the purchase. It makes good espresso and is easy to use. You can program how much espresso and milk you want. It is sold a as a cappuccino maker but I would say it just makes lattes. This is fine with me but if you are really looking for a machine that makes cappuccino you might be disappointed. One thing I do not like about the machine is that the milk is not hot enough. There is a setting to make the espresso warmer but not the milk.
I had the machine for 3 weeks so cannot comment on it's long term durability which reading reviews is an issue with a lot of machines.

Rated 1 out of 5 by OleJoe inconsistent coffee and maintenance intensive machine
Recently we purchased the Saeco Syntia Automatic espresso machine. First, a quick review of the machine, then more details.
Quick review: inconsistent coffee and maintenance intensive.
More details: When the Saeco Syntia worked as intended it made excellent cappuccino and tall coffee.
In the less than two weeks that I had this machine it worked as intended roughly for only one in three cups. While I did not keep an exact tally I do feel that this is representative of what I experienced. Here are the issues that I found.
The milk frother was highly inconsistent and required disassembling and cleaning sometimes multiple times a day. Even still it often produced far less than optimal thick froth. The froth was often very weak comprised of 1/4 to 3/8 inch bubbles. This occurred even as I followed the cleaning directions. At one point it would not respond even to this cleaning and I had to totally disassemble all the user maintained parts and clean everything including the nozzle that feeds the frother.
We also experienced issues with the internal handling of the coffee grounds, both pre and post brewing. As I use multiple types of coffee I did make use of the pre-ground capability. On at least four occasions the machine rejected my pre-ground coffee and ejected it, preferring to grind the whole beans. Once it was my fault for pushing a wrong button. But the other times this was not the case and I was unable to determine why my grounds were rejected. The issue I had with the post-brew grounds is that the internal handling of these was very messy. Used grounds regularly foul the brew group and its surrounds. On one occasion all of the ejected grounds for multiple consecutive cups of coffee missed the bin entirely and piled up behind the brew group. I found this as I was trying to research why my pre-ground coffee had been rejected. Yes, I found the unused dry grounds piled on top of several other used pods. Again disassembling and cleaning of the machine was required.
We also experienced highly inconsistent quality of coffee even when the machine appeared to have all components working. For two consecutive days every cup came out smelling and tasting burnt, kind of like the last quarter inch of coffee in the office pot that had been left on all day. But then this issue went away just as quickly and mysteriously as it showed up.
Other issues include the machine flashing that there were no beans even while the hopper was full and it was milling beans for the current cup. Another occasion produced a message that there was a problem with the brew group while it was brewing a cappuccino. Both of these messages quickly disappeared as the brewing successfully completed. Another time the machine dispensed only hot water after attempting to grind the beans. The hopper feeder was apparently jammed but the machine did not sense the blockage, ground nothing and ran hot water over an empty basket. It did this several times until I realized the issue and once again disassembled the machine and cleared the jam.
There was also an issue with the overflow of water and grounds into the drip tray. With as messy as the used ground handling was it was not surprising to see lots of grounds in the tray. But I was concerned about the amount of water that collected in the tray. It needed to be emptied/cleaned every three to four cups.
And as a coup-de-gras the machine also told me that it needed descaling in the first week of use which I did.
Needless to say I believe that the design of this machine is not ready for prime time and I returned it.
Even though when the machine worked it made excellent coffee I cannot abide a ratio of one in three cups to get a good cup of coffee. I could not recommend it.

Will only work with light roasted beans. With expresso beans it quickly jamed up and not enought coffee made it into the tamper. Went to lighter roast beans and it works much better. It Leaked into the drip pan while making shots out of the box. 4 shots created 1/2 cup water in drip pan. To make a double capp means that you are required to run through the complete cycle two times. I would expect it to make. double the amount (two steamed miks, two shots) completed together.
The milk frothier created very large bubbles that burst quickly. Buy the time the coffee process was completed it was completely flat. In the 3 weeks I has the machine I took the time to adjust the grind and follow the process in the book, but the water leaking became a real turn off for this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NYCGuy Great espresso but the water and coffee bean capacity is too small for a super automatic machine
I had this unit for a week and was disappointed in how it performed. Don't get me wrong as it makes a mean cup of espresso and a nice cappuccino but I was constantly filling up both the water tank and the bean hopper and having to empty the drip tray. It was used by just my wife and myself and we didn't expect to be doing this so often.
I returned the machine and purchased the Saeco Intelia One Touch Cappuccino machine instead which is a slightly larger machine but holds considerably more water and beans and has a much larger drip tray which I absolutely love and highly recommend!!!

I've had this machine for 6 months now and I love it!!! It is very easy to use and makes the best cappuccino - better than the cafes. The foam is very thick you can almost stand a spoon in it. My friends love to come over and have a cappuccino at my house!
My husband makes his own coffee in the mornings now with the push of a button! My coffee is always hot!
