People all over the world are busy helping to fight the current crisis. These are the people we call heroes. Heroes are ordinary people in extraordinary times, from the front lines to those behind the scenes. We are there for them because we make life better together. Meet our heroes.
Our daily work changes people's lives"
Charmae
While many of us worked from home, people like Charmae worked harder than ever. At the Philips manufacturing facility in Murrysville, Pennsylvania, Charmae works on the production line where Trilogy EVO fans are assembled, tested and packaged. She has been very dedicated to her work for the past 14 years and the global pandemic has only made her invest more in the work she does. "It's special to know that what we do every day changes people's lives and makes them breathe easier", she said. "I am grateful that I could help make a difference." Even in these troubled times, Charmae and her colleagues continue to work tirelessly and fearlessly to manufacture, test and distribute life-saving medical equipment to those in need. Her smile alone brings joy to the workplace and that makes Charmae a hero.
Stay calm, be honest and stay human"
Dr. Asin
Like many doctors around the world, Dr. Asin has worked tirelessly to help those in need. The role of Dr. Asin as a pulmonologist is to work on respiratory health. His work plays a critical role in helping patients recover from COVID-19. The largest outbreak of the virus in the Netherlands started in North Brabant, where Dr. Asin works in the Amphia hospital. The pressure was enormous, but that did not discourage this doctor. With a smile on his face, Dr. Asin shared his lessons with us on how best to comfort patients: "The best tips for helping anxious patients? Be organized, stay calm, be honest and stay human." The selflessness that Dr. Asin has shown and dedication to his work makes him a hero.
We have all worked very hard"
Kadir
Kadir, a father of five, has been working non-stop since the crisis started. As a systems engineer at Philips Refurbished Systems in Best, Kadir and his colleagues work in a large factory that produces CT scanners. These scanners allow doctors to quickly take pictures of people's lungs to determine whether or not they have the coronavirus. It normally takes about six weeks to refurbish one scanner. Now, after much dedication and many hours of work, it only takes two weeks. "That is the work of me and my colleagues. I am quite proud of that. We have all worked very hard." While it was difficult for his children to understand exactly what their father is doing, they know their father has an important job and Kadir is very proud of how they deal with it. His commitment to helping others makes Kadir a hero.
Food unites people"
Sandra
While some people can't go to work and others have to, Sandra showed the initiative to take on an extra task alongside her job. In her spare time, Sandra has spread positivity in her environment by sharing her talent for baking. The crisis situation has left many elderly vulnerable and lonely, so Sandra went to see how she could help. Her baked goods made many people smile. "Pastry makes many people happy and food unites people", she tells us. In times like these you quickly feel powerless, but Sandra shows that everyone has the strength to make a difference. Everything she does comes from the heart and that makes Sandra a hero.
