Why am I not seeing a picture or not seeing the correct resolution when connected with HDMI?
Published on 25 August 2022
Some devices connected using HDMI are not compatible with the higher speed and higher resolution HDMI 2.0 or HDMI 2.0a used in 4K sets and 4K sets with HDR. This may result in picture distortion and/or no audio. It may also result in an error message from the connected device indicating something similar to “Resolution is not Supported”
Correcting this issue is simple. You just have to tell the TV what HDMI format to use on the HDMI input your source device is connected to (for example a BD player with 4K UHD HDR 10 output, or a cable or satellite box without 4K output). Navigate to the correct HDMI input for your device following the instructions below, and select the correct mode (2K Mode Compatibility or 4K Mode):
For legacy Philips Televisions (non-Android and non-Roku)
For Philips Android Televisions running Android 8.0
Follow these steps or watch the video below:
Press the "Home" button on your remote control
Navigate to the "Settings" Icon in the upper right of the screen (appears as a gear/sprocket) and select it by pressing the center button on the remote (button in the middle of the navigation keys)
Navigate to the INPUTS section of the menu and select it.
Scroll to the very bottom to the section labeled "HDMI EDID Settings"
Select the input you are troubleshooting
Toggle the setting to whichever setting is not currently selected (1.4 or 2.0)
See if the issue is resolved
NOTE: In general, EDID 2.0 should be selected for newer products that support HDR or 4K UHD resolution at 60 Hz, while EDID 1.4 is for older (legacy) products that do not have HDR and only have resolution up to 4K at 30 Hz.
For Philips Televisions running Android 9 or later
Follow these steps or watch the video below:
Press the "Home" button on your remote control
Navigate to the "How To" Application in the applications row and select it by pressing the center button on the remote (button in the middle of the navigation keys)
Navigate to the "HDMI SETTINGS" section of the menu and select it.
The HDMI mode can be configured independently for each HDMI input on a 4K, 8K or HDR Roku TV to match the capabilities of each device.
Press Home on your Roku TV remote to go to the main screen
Scroll and select Settings
Select TV inputs
Choose the device or the HDMI input under Inputs being used. If the HDMI input is not used, choose Set up input and add it to your home screen.
Select HDMI mode and choose one of the following:
Auto – Let your Roku TV try and determine the best setting. Use this option unless the picture is displayed incorrectly, or you know the HDMI version the device supports.
Compatibility – Compatible with some older devices such as Blu-Ray players designed before the HDMI 2.0 standard which may send an incompatible signal when the HDMI mode is set to Standard. All HDMI devices will display correctly in this mode, but you may not get an optimal picture.
Standard – Compatible with all newer devices, including those that support 4K HDR or better.
