Great Sound, Major Design Flaw
Received the SHB9850NC from Philips after my SHB9250/27 split at the connections. I love the balanced sound from Philips 40mm drivers. The SHB 9100 version are the most comfortable to wear. The noise cancelling works pretty well but does not completely vanquish loud outside noise. Pairing with Bluetooth to my cell phone and Macbook Pro has always worked great and both devices can be used together on the Philips SHB9850NC. The problem is with the design. My SHB9250/27 lasted about 3 months under normal every day use before they slightly split. This causes a portion to push into the top of my head when I put them on which made them very painful to wear. My SHB9850/NC headphones lasted about 6 months under delicate every day use. They have a small split on one side where the screws connect. Although they are still wearable, just the small split is enough to push a piece of the hard plastic onto my head making them very painful to wear. So now I will need to find a different brand of Bluetooth headphones that will hopefully have a better design and won't break so easily. I'm very disappointed because Philips is such a great company and I really like their products, but they fell short on making their headphones durable.

Good sound, bad build quality
So July 2016 I purchase the product. I really enjoy the sound quality and the noise cancelling works well enough, especially in crowded environments with lots of muffled noise. Dont expect everything to be completely silent, but play some music softly and then everything disappears. The leather seems to be legit, and mine hasnt even started to be worn away.
So what i did find is the build quality isnt great. A friend of mine bought these headphones a week after I did, his lasted 6 months before they physically broke on the side, where you adjust the size. My set lasted me a year before they broke where the platic adjustment area is joined with the 'leather' head band. I repaired the headset with some super glue and insulation tape. About a month later, the other side breaks in EXACTLY the same way. I have read multiple reviews online, including one on HelloPeter under Philips South Africa, and they confirm the same fault.
Another problem i had was the little square pieces of plastic in the ear area. On each side these square pieces press against your ear and it gets quite sore after a few hours. My friend did not have this issue but i have found some complaints online about this.
The touch pad on the side is okay, it does get triggered by an arm brushing by or something. When adjusting the volume, once you reach the limit (max/min) a loud double-beep occurs and can be extremely loud and uncomfortable in the eras.
I have never tested the NFC, but i think before adding that, Philips should have done some resilience testing. It seems that the joins on the headband are in the perfect position to receive maximum stress when in use. Maybe better plastic is needed, or some carbon-fibre
