Why do the fans of my Philips DVDR work when it's off?

For the execution of certain procedures the DVD recorder can turn itself on automatically, although no information is visible on the display. To prevent overheating, the fans on the back will turn on and off automatically. This is normal operation; there is nothing wrong with the unit.
